Following a momentous vote last night, Santa Clara Vanguard, a founding member of DCI, has been approved to return to the DCI Tour, and has announced that they are back. This comes after a year off of touring and significant concerns that the storied organization would not be able to return.
Additionally, they have appointed a new CEO, Dr. Russell Gavin, whose most recent role has been as the Stanford University Director of Bands. Dr. Gavin has served in a variety of roles, most prominently for DCI as the Corps Director at the Blue Stars for almost 10 years. Dr. Gavin was reached for comment, but, as of publication, has not responded.
It has yet to be announced if the time away from tour will impact what the 2024 season will look like, in regard to scheduling and the widely discussed possibility of a reduced and/or regional tour. However, significant oversight is expected to ensure that the Vanguard organization is strong for years to come.
